What is a decorator showhouse?

Throughout the country, usually in major metropolitan areas, decorator showhouses are staged, typically in the spring or fall. A new house is built or an existing one is renovated to serve as the showhouse. Home builders, decorators and design specialists who offer home and landscape services and products pool their energies and resources to stage a furnished, finished home. Each participant designs a unique room or area inside of the house, and various professionals work together to surround the house with a fully landscaped exterior. Although the individual style of each participant involved is clearly visible in the completed home, constant effort to maintain continuity and flow in the design is employed. This year, the Acadiana Symphony Decorator Showcase will offer not one but three fully decorated homes as showhouses, each with its own unique design style and team of decorators and home décor vendors. The result is a true showcase of the best and brightest talent this area has to offer.

Who participates?

In our community, the Acadiana Symphony Women’s League and River Ranch Development are partnering with sponsors to present a special showcase of construction and design talent. Residential construction suppliers and services also donate their efforts to this project. A comprehensive resource guide is supplied to every visitor identifying paint colors, furniture and accessory sources, and other detailed information. Decorators and design specialists who have volunteered for this project are: Albarados Fine Furnishings, Jodi Bolgiano, Mallory Page Chastant, Dunn’s Designs, Gerilyn Lytal Roth Interiors, Jeffery McCullough Design & Art Consulting, The Living Room, Paige Gary Designs, and W Home Furnishings.

Why are they involved?

Most decorator showhouses are staged to benefit local nonprofit organizations. All proceeds from ticket sales for this project go to the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory. Developers and builders grant use of the homes as a gesture of support for the Symphony and to allow potential clients to experience the quality of their construction and development expertise. Interior and exterior designers and vendors participate for the Symphony and the opportunity to exhibit their services and products in a realistic context.

Where are the homes?

The three properties featured this year are all located in River Ranch Development on Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette: A cottage on Levison Way by L.R. Mitchell Construction, a home on Biltmore by LaFosse Construction, and a condominium in Carriage House Condominiums by Ketteringham Builders. Visitors will be provided maps to the homes.
